Tim sketched this on his laptop through only a procedures
Gab's brother Tim took these pictures during our visit to Waskasiu. Gab's Dad (Harold) got married to a wonderful lady named Christine while we were there.

Griswold is this creepy town that I grew up near. Why is it creepy? Because about the only person left in town is a scary man who rides his old bicycle around town all day (and night I think). Everything is abandoned and falling apart. The houses in this town are left for dead. No one even bothers to take their furniture or sell their place. They just leave. Ya, so, it's creepy.

I've been looking for my oil...I guess it's up in Griswold. Seriously, it's sad what happened to it, but there's a ghostly beauty to it that I find intensely captivating. I'd be interested to see what it looks like in the summer. It's the kind of place I'd take a roadtrip to just to explore and take pictures. Sat 20-Dec-2003 02:24

Very nice pics. I'd like to meet this old man who rides around town on his bike all today. I'd bet talking to him is quite an experience. Tue 23-Dec-2003 03:10

I love the pics too. Especially your old house - the paint that's still left at the top under the eves is probably the last paint that house will ever see, and your mum and dad put it there! It was a crumbled-down looking house when they moved there but soon they had it looking all cleaned up and shiny and loved and lived in. One other favorite in this batch of pics is "The Elephant", because he's got an 'elephant' friend peeking out of that boarded-up window to his right, or at least airing its wooden trunk. It's nice not to have to be alone in a village that's losing all its elevators and most of its people. Fri 19-Mar-2004 08:00

Gab in an elevator like tourist booth.

Griswolds last elevator
Griswold was known as the town of grain elevators, but this is the only one left and happens to be a rather small, touristy type of mimic.

When an important reality slips away into the dust, museums take over. They're noble in their attempt to recreate a wee picture of past vitality and truth. The comedy of this one is its totally unselfconscious delight in being its own little self and providing a perfect spot for a really good today pic, the old realities bedanged. Is there a lesson there? Fri 19-Mar-2004 08:39
